From Coffee Table to Ottoman

I have had this coffee table for years and never really loved it or hated it.  It was just there.  So, I decided it was time to turn it into something I love.

One thing I really love to do while sitting on the couch is put my feet up on the table.  However, the table is an extremely uncomfortable place to rest your feet.  So, the obvious solutions was turn it into an ottoman.

But, I couldn't just leave it a boring stained wood color.  It needed a new life and that means a new color.

So, I painted the legs turquoise...

...added a foam cushion to the top...

...covered the foam with a layer of batting....

...and covered that with a chic textured black fabric.

I love how it transformed the living room.  I am no longer apathetic about this table.  Now I love it!!  Plus it is such a comfortable place to put my feet up after a long day.  Why didn't I do this sooner?

A New Slipcover, Phase Two

It's finally finished!!

This slipcover took so much longer than my last one...not really sure why.  Could have a been a bit of procrastination (wink, wink), but it did seem like there were a lot more trips back and forth between pinning the pieces together while on the couch and the sewing room.

I'm just so excited to have a couch I am proud of now.

I know the side tables and the coffee table are pretty boring, but they have actually changed since I took these pictures.  More on that later....

Here is a little sneak peek at the next piece of furniture that is getting a slip cover.

This is an Ethan Allen chair I found while out thrifting one day and the only thing wrong with it is a missing cover on the seat cushion.  I thought it was a steal at $24.  I am thinking a bold print on the seat cushion and perhaps a bit of painting (but not the way you are thinking).  Check back soon to see how I transform this piece.

A New Slipcover, Phase One

I bought this couch 6 years ago at a consignment shop.  It's nothing too exciting, but it is a great couch. Unfortunately, over the years, my dogs have really done a number on it's appearance.

{...and these are the clean sides of the cushions}

So, it is time to change things up a bit...

Yes, a white slipcover.  I know, I know, you have seen hundreds of these.  Even though it's nothing new and exciting, I just had to share a bit of this journey.  The cushion covers aren't finished yet and the skirt needs to be hemmed, but I am so excited about the direction this is headed.  Less than half way done and it already changes the feel of the room.

I can't wait to get this finished and finally have a couch that I like again.

Check back for phase two very soon!!

New Life for an Old Bench

I have had this bench forever.
OK, not really forever...but for awhile now.
OK, OK, I confess. I have only had it for a couple of years, but already I was bored with it and shoving it in rooms I don't use so that no one would see it when they were at my house.

It's not that it is an ugly bench...it's just blah!  I already recovered the cushion, because if you can believe it this bench was even more blah to begin with.  But, it was time for a drastic change.

So, a little paint and some new fabric makes Jenni a happy bench owner.

Now I don't hide it in a guest bedroom...

I proudly display it in my own bedroom.  Right under my beautiful mirror!

A footstool upgrade

I found this adorable/boring footstool at an estate sale.  Adorable details on the legs, but boring fabric choice for the cushion.

I thought all it needed was a little face lift...

Some cute fabric to brighten it up!!  Plus, I got to use my double welting foot again to create the covered rope trim.  Yeah!

I love how it turned out!  However, as I was carrying it in to put in our booth at the antique store, we discovered some issues with one of the legs.  After almost a week of clamping and gluing we had it back in pristine condition.

A New Slipcover for my shameful couch

Several years ago I inherited this ugly, schizophrenic yet comfortable couch.

She sat in the unfinished basement for a few years and was never used.  Then about 4 years ago, I moved and didn't have an unfinished area to hide her in.  So, I am embarrassed to say this, but she has been sitting in my house just as ugly as can be and I didn't do a thing about it.

Finally, I have gotten my act together and made my very first slipcover...

Doesn't she look so much better?  Now I don't have to be ashamed when people come to my house.

Did you notice the adorable embroidered throw pillows?  Aren't they great?  These were a gift from my mom and you can read all about them here.  Stop by her blog and check them out!!!

My Cozy Little Nook

Don't you just love a little cozy nook?  Someplace to relax and take a moment for yourself....

I don't have the largest bedroom, but once I saw this chair I knew I needed to give it a little makeover and then find a spot for it in my room.

I bought it awhile ago, so I am not 100% sure on this, but I think I paid $6 for it.  It had some stains on the seat and some markings on the arms.  No problem since I was planning on painting it and recovering it.

I didn't apparently take a picture in between start and finish.  But, here is the finished chair...

Isn't it beautiful?  I might be a little biased, but I am just in love with how it turned out.  Plus, I got to use my new double welting foot to make the covered rope trim.

How did I ever live without this foot before?

Check back soon for the tutorial on my fun rose petal jersey pillow....
